About the Sar Pass Trek

The Sar Pass sits at an altitude of approx 13,580 ft above sea level in the Kulu district of Himachal Pradesh. The Sar Pass is one of the pleasant treks of India, it offers a variety of flora and fauna, you pass through various live streams and offering a variety of terrain change. The base camp for this trek is Kasol, which is again a popular spot for the crowd who are young at heart. The Kasol is situated near the banks of Parvati river in the Parvati valley.


The trek starts with dense forests and shifts to a total whiteout, you trek to Grahan village on Day 2, crossing the Grahan Nallah and moving over the rocky and steep path. You take a shift from the green lush forest to a less green and to direct a white environment, you walk over the snow on an ascending path. During the trek, you pass through various small meadows which are locally termed as Thatch, you will be passing through the Min - Thatch and the Biskeri - Thatch and is mostly occupied by villagers with their livestock to graze.


Explore the local cuisines served at the different cafes. Kasol is situated at an altitude of 5,184 ft in the Parvati valley with the river Parvati running along the side. Kasol is a hub to many tours and treks which is often crowded with adventure lovers and to spice to their travel they choose to indulge in the other activities offered at Kasol.


This trek offers a great opportunity for the first-timers trekkers, the balanced offering of terrain and adventure are the major pillars of this trek. In Kullu District, You can also visit more other fabulous Treks like Hampta Pass Trek, Lamadugh Trek etc.

Day 1: Arrival at the Kasol, registration and orientation.


Altitude: 5,184 ft

Stay Type: Stay in swiss tents on a double/triple sharing basis

 

  • Arrive at Kasol campsite and check-in into the swiss tents and after some rest start your registration process.
  • You will be briefed about the trail, The trek leader will tell you the dos and don’ts of the trek.
  • In the evening you can explore around the campsite, the various inhouse activities at the campsite.
  • You can try some of the local cuisines of the Kasol, indulge into the Kasol culture and enjoy your evening.
  • In the late evening come back to the campsite have your hot dinner and retire for the day.

 

Day 2: Trek to Grahan village.


Altitude: 7,700 ft

Trek: 9 km (5-6 hours)

Meals included: Breakfast - Lunch - Evening Snacks - Dinner

Stay Type: Stay in tents on a double/triple sharing basis

 

  • Enjoy the sunrise in the morning, have your breakfast and get ready for a thrilling trek.
  • The trail starts from entering into the lush pine forests and in a couple of hours in the trek, you will reach the Grahan nallah.
  • Post Grahan Nallah the route will continue with steep ascent crossing through the steep rocks & forest of Rhododendron.
  • Few hours more of walking you reach the Grahan village, pitch your tents, keep your luggage at the allotted tents and step out to explore the village.
  • Have your hot dinner at the campsite and retire for the day.

 

Day 3: Grahan village to Minthatch


Altitude: 11,150 ft

Trek: 6 km (5 -6 hours)

Meals included: Breakfast - Lunch - Evening Snacks - Dinner

Stay Type: Stay in tents on a double/triple sharing basis

 

  • Wake up to a great morning and enjoy the breakfast with a great view of mountains all around and start your trek to Min Thatch.
  • Say hello to the locals passing by, experience the different terrains as you move upwards.
  • Few more hours of walking the Min Thatch opens up, locals bring their cattle here to graze. This part of the trek gets denser with lush green forest all around, stay with the group to not get stuck anywhere else.
  • Admire the Chanderkhani stretch and many other peaks visible from the campsite, the term Min Thatch is derived from the location only as Min is the name of the place and Thatch means a small meadow.
  • Have your hot meals at the campsite and retire for the day.

 

Day 4: Min Thatch to Nagaru


Altitude: 12,450 ft

Trek: 5 km (4 -5 hours)

Meals included: Breakfast - Lunch - Evening Snacks - Dinner

Stay Type: Stay in tents on a double/triple sharing basis

 

  • Wake up to a chilly morning, pack your luggage and start your steep trek to Nagaru.
  • Today the trek will take you to an elevation of approx 12,450 ft, the trails are steep and the snow patches will slow you down.
  • During the trek enjoy the mesmerizing views of the splendid mountains surrounding the Parvati valley.
  • Once you reach the Nagaru campsite, pitch your tents and be the evening enjoy the view of Manikaran town, it lights up as multiple fireflies sat on a tree.
  • The nights get a little cold so be prepared, have your hot meal and retire for the day at the campsite.

 

Day 5: Nagaru to Biskeri Thatch via Sar Pass


Altitude: 13,580 ft

Trek: 6.5 km (7 -8 hours)

Meals included: Breakfast - Lunch - Evening Snacks - Dinner

Stay Type: Stay in tents on a double/triple sharing basis

 

  • Give a kick start to the morning, have your breakfast and get ready for an adventurous day.
  • Today the trail grows on snow trails and offering a dazzling view of the Tosh valley peak.
  • After a tiring climb, you reach the top to Sar Pass, situated at an altitude of above 13,500 ft.
  • The top view of the pass offers splendid views of snow-capped mountains, with Deo Tibba peak view.
  • After spending enough time at the pass, climb down to Biskeri and enjoy how nature flows you down to the valley.
  • The back trail to Biskeri will offer you a walkthrough many magical water streams and the usual nature playing around.
  • Reach the campsite and rest, enjoy the hot meal of the day and retire for the day in the respective camps.

 

Day 6: Biskeri Thatch to Kasol via Barshaini


Drive: 16 km (40 min)

Trek: 5 km (3 -4 hours)

Meals included: Breakfast

 

  • Wake up to a fresh morning, have your breakfast and bid bye to the adventure of Sar Pass trek, as this is the last day of the trek.
  • Start your trek downhill through the dense forest of pine with the nature playing all around you, crossing a stream and you reach Pulga. The twin Pulga & Tulga villages are separated by a stream.
  • Cross the bridge and you enter the Barshaini village, board your vehicle and drive back to Kasol, enjoy the scenic views at every curve and conclude the journey.

 

The trek ends here.

Air: Take a flight to Kullu or Chandigarh airport and board a bus to reach Kasol and an auto or cab to Kasol campsite.

 

Road: Volvo & bus transfers are available from Delhi & Chandigarh to Kasol, after reaching Kasol take a cab or an auto to Kasol campsite.

 

Rail: Take a train to Chandigarh or Delhi railway station and board a bus to Kasol and a cab to Kasol campsite.

9. Water bottle (sturdy ones, no empty Bisleribottles!!)

10. Cap / Hat to keep the strong sun away from your face

Inclusions:


1. You will be greeted by our trek team with welcome drink on your arrival to Lohajung.

2. All stays included from Lohajung to Lohajung on double / triple sharing basis:

 (i) Swiss Tents on day 1

 (ii) Alpine / Dome tents on day 2,3,4,5.

3. All meals included from Day 1 dinner to Day 6 breakfast. Vegetarian meals will be served throughout the trek.

4. Skilled local staff who have ample knowledge of the route

5. Hot water in buckets can be provided on request depending on availability, while staying at Kasol only.

6. Kitchen, dining and toilet tents will be used during the trek.

7. Cooks/Helper for carrying common equipments like rations/tents/utensils/groceries.

8. Transportation on Day 6  from Barshaini to Kasol.

8. All trek essentials included–

 (i) Accommodation - tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats etc

 (ii) Safety equipment - microspikes, gaiters as per requirements and basic first aid kit with a portable oxygen cylinder.

 (iii) Permit - forest and camping fee included.

 

Exclusions:

 

1. The above trek charges does not include the GST charges (5%).

2. Personal essentials -

(i) Equipment - Gumboots, trekking poles, sleeping bag, liners etc.

(ii) Insurance - Personal and travel insurances.

(iii) Beverage - Mineral water bottles/bottled or canned beverages

(iv) Snacks - Chocolate, dry fruits, protein or nutrition bar.

(v) Entertainment - Camera or drone fees.

3. Transportation - The charges of transportation on day 1 and 6, to reach and leave Kasol are to be borne and shared between the trekkers.

4. In case if your trek remains incomplete or uninitiated because of "force majeure", medical emergency or by personal choice after you arrive at the starting point, you will not be able to get refund, reschedule or replace any services that remain unutilized by you.

5. Any additional cost incurred due to changes in Government Guidelines related to travel/trek/COVID-19 will be borne by the Guest.

6. Anything which is not included in Inclusion.

7. Separate tents on request, will be charged extra (INR 1,500 per tent)

 

1. If cancellations are made within 48 hours prior to the start of the trek, 100% advance will be charged as cancellation fee.

2. If cancellations are made between 2-7 days prior to the start of the trek, either 75% of paid amount will be returned to the guest or whole advance amount can be adjusted against any trek within next 6 months.

3. If cancellations are made prior to 7 days from the start of the trek, 100% of total advance will be refunded.

4. If you book the trek by paying 25% of booking amount and fail to make the 100% payment before 25 days from date of travel. In this case your booking will get cancelled automatically and can only be reconfirmed once you make the full payment, depending on the availability of slots.

5. In case if your trek remains incomplete or uninitiated because of "force majeure", medical emergency or by personal choice after you arrive at the starting point, you will not be able to get refund, reschedule or replace any services that remain unutilized by you.

6. Cancellations are strictly subjected to cancellation policies mentioned on the website & are irrespective of the date of booking.

7. The applicable refund amount will be processed within 10 business days.
