A beginner’s delight and a weekend’s bright, Nag Tibba Trek is one of the most suitable weekend trips which is easily accessible from New Delhi via Dehradun. It is one of those treks near to Delhi which will give you an experience of an extensive Himalayan trek.
What have you done if not Nag Tibba Trek? It is one of those things in your bucket list which doesn’t ask you to make a hole in your deep pockets yet offers you serene and satisfying views of panoramic landscapes and massive mountains.
Nag Tibba trek which is also known as ‘The Serpents peak trek’ is the highest peak in the lesser Himalayan region in Uttarakhand. The Nag Tibba’s height of 9915 ft. above the sea level offers you what none of the weekend treks can. As stated by several ardent trekkers, Nag Tibba trek gives you a perfect peek into the world of trekking and the kinds of adventures it offers. To anyone, who wishes to enter the realm of trekking, camping and hiking, this trek helps you to get ready to ask for more of these – adventures, thrills, uncertainty, and freedom.
The trek starts from a small traditional Himachal village known as Pantwari with a gradual elevation over a paved trail. Only after a few km, the trail slowly turns onto a twisted stony route with several water crossings in between and takes you to your cosy base camp. The summit which is in a form of a long ridge is an amazing place for you to spend your beautiful morning and afternoon overlooking the spectacular valley. The ridge also gives you a 360-degree view of adorable Himalayan snow-capped mountains and floating white clouds over them, but if the weather changes, you might be bathing within those cotton-soft clouds. Doesn’t it feel so much like heaven? Well, Nag Tibba is indeed accessible heaven on mountains.
Nag Tibba Trek
is particularly known for its splendid views of iconic landscapes and
astonishing height within a few hours of trek. The route is also marked with
large verdant clearings with hamlets sitting on them. The total Nag Tibba trek
distance goes about 16 km which is going and coming back combined.
Nag Tibba’s
weather is another good thing which attracts a lot of adventurists. Even in
December, Nag Tibba’s temperature does not fall below 5 degrees and in summers
does not go above 25 degrees, marking the place with absolutely pleasant
weather.
For us, the
meeting point is either Dehradun railway station or the airport. Dehradun is
itself a beautiful hill station with a lot of splendid spots and creative cafes
and restaurants. It is a place which gives you a chance to visit peaceful
Monasteries like Mindrolling Monastery and also go bring out the fun in
yourself over thrilling treks, both at the same time. Another added advantage
to the Nag Tibba Trek route is the scenic drive from Dehradun to Pantwari
village via Mussoorie. This drive takes you on a road with the sparkling Yamuna
running beside you and oak forests forming large umbrella above you.

Once you have
reached Pantwari, gather together with the team. Your trek guides will give you
a short briefing about all the necessities related to the trek and the terrain.
Once through, you are ready to start with the exciting adventure.
To introduce
you with the steepness, initially, you will trek over a cemented-routes taking
you through dense forests. After walking for a while, you will reach Nag Devta
temple from where, turning left you the trail will start turning into a rocky
shepherd’s trail.
For the
beginners, it might be a little exhausting to trek over a steep trail, but
there is nothing to be sad. After proper 30 minutes trek and crossing over the
3rd road crossing, you will find a perfect spot to rest and refill your water
bottles. Rejuvenate yourself here and get ready to trek the left-over distance.
Gradually, you
will observe that the elevation has started increasing and also the altitude.
The peak which seemed very far and high now would be much nearer to you. Here
is the point from where you will start experiencing the real adventure of Nag
Tibba Trek. The views, the height and the weather will leave you baffled.
Keep trekking
until and enjoying the views until you see a large clearing and a bunch of
camps. This is the base camp for your trek. Take a deep breath and feel happy

amazing a cup of hot tea feels in the mountains.
Depending on
the weather, the trails difficulty level will increase and decrease. If it is
winters, you might experience a lot of snow and hence will have to face some
difficulty to cut through. But because there are a lot of other trekkers too
who keep coming and going, there will be a studded path even in the snow area.
Else, during the summers or at any other time, you won’t face any problem.
After a few km
of trekking, the last one km is the steepest. It is advisable that you keep
walking in a line and ask for help if needed. Only after trekking through the
last one km, you will climb to the top of the Nag Tibba mountain.
The top of the
peak is in a ridge kind of a form which helps you to take a stroll and find the
highest point which will be marked with a flag. Look around and observe the splendour
beauty of nature and the vastness of Swargrohini, Bandarpoonch, Kala Nag,
Srikantha, and Gangotri peaks on your left and Kedarnath peak in the north. Nag
Tibba trek offers you the astounding views of snow-topped mountains, lush green
meadows and viridescent summit. Enjoy some moments walking around and look for
breathtaking views of Himalayan ranges.
After seeping
in all the good vibes from the mountains and the astonishing views, start your
trek back the base camp and finally to Pantwari village, right from where you
had started.
Just like the
other day, drive back to Dehradun which will approximately take 4 hours and
