Har Ki Dun Trek

Har ki Dun is one of the most scenic treks amongst all the Uttarakhand treks. Especially famous for its massive open lush green valleys, Har Ki Dun offers a splendid leisure walk through the viridescent valley in the summers. Though the trek is offered all around the year except monsoon, summers are the ideal time to enjoy the more vibrant colors of the landscape.

The Har Ki Dun valley (Har Ki Doon Valley)  offers an easy trail with perky blooming flowers and gigantic rocks. One of the most dazzling parts of the trail is the gushing Thamsa river. The river becomes a constant companion of yours throughout the trek and sings a melodious song to make you feel enchanted.

What makes Har Ki Dun trekking so special is its vastness. As the entire landscape is surrounded by gigantic peaks and absolutely no tree lines, your field of view is occupied by stunning greenish meadows and wild horses. Also, even though the trek happens at the remotest part of the Uttarakhand, but still it is the natural habitat for many of the local communities with ages-old traditions.

Several times, you also trudge over the routes where you might meet a few locals going about their daily chores. How about making a few new local friends and receiving their unbound warmth? That’s the charm of this trek. It’s more like you are walking in a large garden of yours with immense comfort and adventure.

Har Ki Dun trek (Har Ki Doon trek) also has an interesting mythical side attached to it which makes it more exciting to vanquish. Several oral testimonies say that when Pandavas won the famous battle of Kurukshetra, they along with their shared wife - Draupadi accepted sanyas and embarked on the journey to find heaven. People believe, they accepted the swargarohini peak as the staircase to heaven. Rest as they all say history. But that is how this peak got its name and fame.

From the summit of Har Ki Dun (also sometimes called Har Ki Doon), you can spot the magnificent views of this swargarohini peak. The gigantic snow-clad mountain stands right in front of you, surrounded by snow-white clouds, leaves you awestruck. The view from the peak itself is astonishing and spectacular. It gives you a panoramic clear view of the entire Himalayan region against the massive clean blue sky.

But nothing is as breathtaking as the journey you trek on to reach the top. The warped trail occasionally takes you through forests of blooming pink rhododendrons, oak, and pine. But the moment the tree line ends, the entirety of the incredible natural settings pleases you more than anything. The route is also marked with several small and sparkling waterfalls giving you ideal spots to take shorts breaks and refill your waterfalls.

Unlike other Himalayan treks, this trek is tailored for people who want to enjoy the enchanting surprises of Uttarakhand with a relaxing and meditative hike. Another speciality of the trek is the drive from Dehradun to Har ki Doon base camp - Taluka via Sankri.

Sankri is also the base camp for several other famous treks such as Kedarkantha. The drive from Dehradun is alluring and absolutely delightful. Throughout the route, you drive along the sparkling Yamuna river and then later change to Tongs. Guess what, Tongs river originates from the very same peak of Swargarhoni!

Our meeting point is the ever most famous hill station in Uttarakhand - Dehradun. Dehradun is though is considered as one of the hill stations but gives more like a feel of any other plain region in India. The weather remains pleasant and mildly cold throughout the year. Dehradun is also one of the most famous meeting points for almost all the treks happening in Uttarakhand, therefore you might usually find a lot of trekkers strolling across the streets.
