There are treks which crosses various passes and there are treks which are just different from the normal offerings, this is one of those treks, The Hampta Pass Trek. The Hampta Pass peak offers a splendid view of two valleys. On one side you have a green lush Kullu valley on the other side you have barren mountains and stark landscape of Lahaul. In order to get such views, you go through a steep, rocky and vertical climb to the peak.


In the later part of the trek, you will be driven to the magnificent moon lake, the Chandratal Lake. The lake is situated at an altitude of 14,100 ft and if you wish to see the lake in the moon-shaped as said, then you can take the adjacent mountain to walk on, the ridge will be able to specify the real meaning behind the Chandratal. The drive to Chandratal Lake starts from the Chatru campsite followed by a bumpy scenic drive. Chandratal Lake is near the source Chandra River and is surrounded by peaks & meadows.


Not only this the Hampta Pass trek is purely a Himachal trek and is always welcoming. During the hike, you pass through the small forest which has different colours of blooming flowers and to steep vertical and rocky inclines. Enjoy the magical sunset behind the Hanuman Tibba peak which is visible from the Bhalu ka Ghera campsite. More metres into the trek you stand face to face to the Deo Tibba peak. Every campsite during the trek has its own beauty and can only be seen and felt by marking a presence at a particular point.

This trek is doable for all ages and during some parts of the trek you touch an altitude of 14,000 ft which is not a matter to worry as you need to stay hydrated and relax.

Day 1: Manali to Jobra drive and trek to Chika


Altitude:  10,100 ft

Drive: 17 km (45 min)

Trek: 4 km (2 hours)

  • Wake up to a fresh morning, pack your bags and start your drive to Jobra, start your trek to Chika which is the final destination of the day.
  • You traverse through the maple and pine trees with the Rani river flowing along your side, pass through two wooden bridges and a soft patch of forest covering the walnut and oak trees.
  • After reaching the campsite rest and get yourself involved in the tent pitching activity, consume hot meals, and rest for the day at the campsite.

 

Day 2: Chika to Bhalu ka Ghera


Altitude:  12,400 ft

Trek: 5 km (4 - 5 hours)

Meals Included:  Breakfast - Lunch - Evening Snacks - Dinner

  • Wake up have your breakfast, get ready for a trek to Bhalu Ka Ghera, You will be welcomed by the different colors of small flowers.
  • Spot the snow flows melting and meeting the river while a group of mules feeds on the green grass.
  • Few more meters into the trek, the terrain starts to get flatten as you move towards the bed of sand.
  • Pitch your tents at the campsite and enjoy the beautiful sunset behind the Hanuman Tibba peak, have your hot meal and retire for the day.

 

Day 3: Bhalu ka Ghera to Shea Goru via Hamta Pass:


Altitude:  12,800 ft, via 14,065 ft (Hampta Pass)

Trek: 5 km (7 - 8 hours)

Meals Included:  Breakfast - Lunch - Evening Snacks - Dinner

  • Wake up to fresh morning breakfast, start the day by crossing the mountains of Bhalu Ka Ghera.
  • You are walking in the rockfall prone area, after an hour you reach a plateau that gives a front view of the Deo Tibba peak.
  • As the descends end you start a 20 min vertical climb to 14,000 ft. Hampta Pass. You will be welcomed by great bird-eye views of Kullu and Lahaul valley, with Deo Tibba peak standing in front.
  • After spending enough time at the pass, descend to a zig-zag path until you hit down the valley. After an hour you hit the base of the valley, pitch the tents and retire for the day.

 

Day 4: Shea Goru to Chatru, drive to Chandartal


Altitude: 12,800ft to 10,900 ft, 14,100 ft (Chandratal)

Drive: 70 km  (3 hours)

Trek: 6 km (5 - 6 hours)

Stay Included: Stay in tents on sharing basis

Meals Included:  Breakfast - Lunch - Evening Snacks - Dinner

  • Wake to an exciting morning as today you will visit Chandratal Lake, post the breakfast descend to Chatru.
  • Pitch your tents and leave your excess luggage at the campsite and start your 3 hours long bumpy journey to Chandratal Lake.
  • After spending enough time at the moon lake, start to head back to the Chatru campsite and enjoy the scenic journey. Have your meal and retire for the day.

 

Day 5: Chatru to Manali drive


Drive: 65 km (2 -3 hours)

Meal Included: Breakfast

  • After a splendid night, wake to a good morning have your breakfast, and pack your bags for a drive back to Manali.
  • With a heavy heart bid bye to the Spiti valley and move back to Manali, this will be your last adventure of the day.
  • The scenic journey is a treat to the eyes and you enjoy each and every curve of it.

Air: Take a flight to Kullu airport and book a cab to Manali, if not possible you can book a flight to Delhi or Chandigarh and board a volvo to Manali.

Road: The volvo transfers are available from Delhi as well as from Chandigarh.

Rail: Take a train to Chandigarh railway station and from there book a private or shared cab to Manali.

Inclusions:

1. Stay in tents on sharing basis from Day 1 to Day 4.

2. All meals included from Day 1 Lunch to Day 5 breakfast. Vegetarian meals will be served throughout the trek.

3. Skilled local staff and trek guide who have ample knowledge of the route.

4. Hot water for drinking purposes will be provided on request.

5. Kitchen, dining, and toilet tents will be used during the trek.

6. Cooks/Helper for carrying common equipment like rations/tents/utensils/groceries.

7. All trek essentials included–

(i) Accommodation - tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, etc.

(ii) Safety equipment - microspikes, gaiters (If required), and a basic first aid kit with a portable oxygen cylinder.

(iii) Permit - forest and camping fee included.

8. Transportation from Manali to Chika, Chatru to Chandratal and Chatru to Manali is included


Exclusions:

1. The above trek charges do not include the GST charges (5%).

2. Personal essentials -

(i) Equipment - Gumboots, trekking poles etc.

(ii) Insurance - Personal and travel insurance.

(iii) Beverage - Mineral water bottles/bottled or canned beverages

(iv) Snacks - Chocolate, dry fruits, protein, or nutrition bar.

(v) Entertainment - Camera or drone fees.

3. In case if your trek remains incomplete or uninitiated because of "force majeure" or by personal choice after you arrive at the starting point, you will not be able to get a refund, reschedule or replace any services that remain unutilized by you.

4. Any additional cost incurred due to changes in Government Guidelines related to travel/trek/COVID-19 will be borne by the Guest.

5. Anything which is not included in Inclusion.

1. If cancellations are made within 2 days prior to the start of the trek, 100% advance will be charged as cancellation fee.

2. If cancellations are made between 3-7 days prior to the start of the trek, EITHER 75% of total package amount will be returned to the guest (25% of total package amount will be charged as cancellation fee) OR whole advance amount can be adjusted against any trek within next 6 months.

3. If cancellations are made prior to 7 days from the start of the trek, 100% of the total advance will be refunded.

4. If you book the trek by paying 25% of the booking amount and fail to make the 100% payment before 25 days from date of travel. In this case, your booking will get cancelled automatically and can only be reconfirmed once you make the full payment, depending on the availability of slots.

5. In case if your trek remains incomplete or uninitiated because of "force majeure" or by personal choice after you arrive at the starting point, you will not be able to get refund, reschedule or replace any services that remain unutilized by you.

6. Cancellations are strictly subjected to cancellation policies mentioned on the website & are irrespective of the date of booking.

7. The applicable refund amount will be processed within 10 business days.
