Winters are usually the time for the Indian trekkers to sober up from
their slumber and trek across various snow peaks. The wish to take a leisure
walk under the canopy of pine trees and warm sun attracts a lot of adventurists
to the winter treks in Uttarakhand.
Moustache treks presents you the classiest Himalayan trek of the year – The Brahmatal Trek.
Amongst all the things, Brahmatal trek is mostly famous for its views.
Right from the second day, you get to see clear views of Mt. Nanda Ghunti and
Trishul. They accompany you throughout the trek from Bekaltal lake to Brahmatal
top.
What makes Brahmatal trekking truly delightful is the snow and alpine
frozen lakes. Brahmatal trek in December witness heavy snowfall and
blood-freezing temperature that brings a lot of snow on the route.
The alpine lakes – Bekaltal and Brahmatal gets frozen and look seemingly
gorgeous. Spending some peaceful time around them makes you feel happy.
The reason Brahmatal should definitely find a place in your bucket list
is that this trek starts rolling at the end of December and goes till late
March marking the onset of blooming rhododendrons. Whereas, other winter treks
stay open maximum to late December.
What is the best time and how is the weather during the trek?
In Winters:
Brahmatal trek in December gets really cold with temperature as down as
– 5 degree Celsius in the night. Nonetheless, Brahmatal weather is known for
its harsh coldness and spine-chilling temperature.
Usually, during the day time, the Brahmatal temperature comes up to 7
degrees Celsius giving you some time to warm yourself. But as the night falls,
the temperature falls down below 0 degree Celsius.
But giving you an abundance of snow and a chance to enjoy the snow
games, winter season stays a pleasurable time. The green meadows and trees turn
all white with snow on their top. The entire landscape becomes like a large
synchronized open field full with snow and patches of flora.
In Summers:
While winter is full of snow, summers, in contrast, is yellow and green.
The weather throughout the summer stays pleasant and mild cold. This also helps
the trees and flowers to bloom under the sun. The meadows become lush green and
the trees outshine others with vibrant leaves.
On average, the temperature in the daytime remains in between 10 – 20
degree Celsius but in the night falls maximum to 7 degree Celsius. But even at
7 degrees, the weather remains comparatively pleasant and comfortable.
The only added advantage to this season is the lush green flora. The
forest which turns white in late winters, now turns leafy and green.
But despite all the perks of the summer season, winter is the best time
to do the Brahmatal trek. The kind of experience snow offers you is
unparalleled.
How are the summit views and the terrain?
If for nothing else, you should definitely climb the peak to witness the
summit views. Although Mt. Trishul and
Nanda Ghunti accompanies you throughout but summit opens up to a new horizon of
peaks.
If the weather stays sunny and clear, you will be able to spot the
incredible Mt. Neelkanth and Mt. Hathi Ghoda.
Interestingly, Brahmatal trek offers you a ridge summit. Which means,
unlike other summit climbs, here you don’t climb a steep terrain to reach the
top but walk on a long ridge which takes you on the summit.
Brahmatal’s ridge is one of its specialty. This ridge consists ample
space to nestle the famous Brahmatal trek and some area to wander.
While you are at the summit, you can enjoy some quiet time to yourself.
The cold breeze and warm sun will make you comfortable. Vanquishing the summit
also gives you a sense of confidence and satisfaction. After all, you have
worked hard to achieve the heights at which you are standing right now.
How about stumping in your own flag somewhere on the peak and capturing
your lifetime photos?
One cannot forget the experience to witness the stunning Brahmatal lake.
Sitting quietly at the top, this glacial lake remains frozen throughout the
winters and melts in the summers.
Brahmatal trek is truly a beginner’s trek. Hence, the terrain throughout
the trek remains relatively easy. In winters, you will encounter fresh snow on
the way which sometimes may prove to be slippery, but in summers, the trail
remains dry and easy to trek on.
The only time when you will face a moderately steep climb is on the
second day. When you trek from Lohajung to Bekaltal – the frozen river, the
climb becomes steeper and stony. Over all, the route is quite easy to trek and
reach at the top of the peak.
What about your stays and washroom facilities?
In the span of six days, three days you stay in the alpine dome tents
and two days you stay in the guest houses. On the first and last day, you are
provided with excellent rooms in the guest houses, and all the other days, you
get twin sharing tents.
If it is winters, camping happens on a flat ground mostly surrounded by
snow. Isn’t it wonderful to sleep a night in the middle of snow? Along with the
camps, you will also have sleeping bags to snuggle in and get warm.
As far as the washroom facilities are concerned, we don’t have permanent
constructed buildings so you will get dry toilets to perform your nature calls.
Where will we meet each other?
Amidst all the beauties and fancies of the enticing Brahmatal trek,
don’t forget to recognize the importance of Rishikesh which is going to be our
meeting point. Rishikesh, the yoga capital of the world and an excellent place
to practice meditation sits quietly at the foothills of the Himalayas.
It holds the world famed intersection point of three important rivers –
Confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati at the ‘Triveni Ghat’. What better
place there could be to start you’re a week-long trek?
Rishikesh is a must visit place for anyone and everyone who has never
tasted a glimpse of fun and adventure. Things such as ever thrilling ‘Bungee
Jumping’ will take you for a ride from hell to heaven and ‘Flying Fox’ will give
you a chance to feel the chilling air while flying from one mountain to
another.
Amidst all of these activities, one holds the most attraction across
India – ‘River Rafting’. Rishikesh’s river rafting is not only famous in all of
India but also across Asia. The twists and turns, the rush and jump, the swim
and float during the rating will give you one hell of an experience.
For people, who are already full of adventures and would love to ramble
for a quiet evening, Rishikesh could be your ‘THE’ place. The city has
countless beautiful cafes and restaurants, hosting evening shows and scores of
events.
If you fancy having a meal with hissy sound of running water and soft
music, Rishikesh has already got you!
