Pangong Lake
You rarely know the surprises earth has in mind with you in Ladakh. Pangong Lake, at roughly 4,350 meters above sea level, is the most beautiful refreshing lake in India. Its water, which appears to be colored blue, contrasts sharply with the barren hills around it. The Pangong Lake is over 160 kilometers long, with 1/3rd in India as well as the other 2/3rd in China. Pangong Lake, one of Leh Ladakh's most well-known lakes, is named after the Tibetan phrase "Pangong Tso," meaning means "great meadow pond." You might sit here for hours contemplating its magnificence and still not be satisfied. Pangong Lake is also notable for changing colors at various times, looking blue, green, and red.
What else on your ladakh winter tour platter?
Visiting Leh Ladakh in winter has its own charm. Besides, there's something for everyone in this isolated Himalayan region. Starting from:
#1 Diskit Village- A quaint hamlet in the cold desert
Stop by the Himalayan village of Diskit- a remote world, situated 118 kilometers from Leh on the banks of river Shyok. With unbelievably fresh air, this lovely little town is littered with apricot plantations and wondrous sites like ancient Diskit monastery, rocky hills of Shyok Valley along with lovely grasslands, and the Himalayan desert as an unblemished paradise on the face of the earth.
#2 Exploring Hunder- The oasis in the Himalayas
Hunder is a small settlement in the Nubra Valley, around 7 kilometres from Diksit Monastery. Sand dunes, chilly deserts, and Bactrian camel rides are all popular attractions. It also has sea-buckthorn forests, which are a therapeutic herb. Hunder is also famous with trekkers, but it is best known for the Bollywood song "Dil Se," which was shot here and starring Shahrukh Khan and Manisha Koirala.
Moustache Tip: Visit the Zamskang Palace, of the erstwhile kingdom, which has been carefully restored to its original glory.
#3 Sightseeing trip to the 'Land of High Passes'- Leh
The place welcomes every kind of audience. Pay tribute to our borderline heroes in the Hall of Fame. A museum dedicated to all the Indian soldiers who martyred their lives to several Indo-Pak wars over the years. Later pay homage at the Gurudwara Pathhar Sahib that commemorate his visit to Ladakh and is flocked by Tibetan pilgrims as well.
